“Downton Abbey Afternoon Tea,” hosted by the Greene County Historical Society Saturday afternoon at the Historical Museum, was served to a sell-out group of ladies (and a few gentlemen), interested in a bit of learning and a lot of fun.
The tea tables were set with place settings provided be several Historical Society members. Seasonal centerpieces were created with teapots from Jan Rosdail Aegerter’s collection, and Margaret and Abby Hamilton also shared their teapot collection.
While they weren’t quite butlers like Downton Abbey’s Carson, John Brunow, John Turpin, Phil Siglin and Alan Robinson greeted guests and took their coats, and later helped serve water and tea. Denise Harberts and Marianne Carlson provided a plentiful buffet of light and savory treats.
Mary Weaver of Rippey (second from left) invited former co-workers to join her for tea. Janan Smith of West Des Moines (left), Lois Lex of Ames (second from right) and Jill France of Adel (right), hosted by Mary, spent the entire day touring Greene County, with stops in several shops. They had so much fun they hope to bring a busload of friends on their next visit.
